Isaac Oppong was again the hero as the forward scored a clinical goal to give Asante Kotoko a 1-0 win over GoldStars on Friday.
Coach Prosper Nerteh’s Porcupines backed up out excellent wins at Dreams FC and home to Bechem United by collecting another impressive three points to extend our unbeaten run to three games.
After an end-to-end first half, the lads came into the second session renewed and a 55st-minute move by Patrick Asmah saw the left-back being caught into the box.
The referee ignored our penalty call and that turned out to be a blessing as Isaac Oppong pounced on the ball to bend into the far post.
It was the third time Isaac Oppong was influencing our win this season, having come off the bench to score and also provide an assist in our 3-1 comeback win over Dreams FC.
He also assisted Samuel Boateng to score the second goal in our 2-0 win over Bechem United on matchday-2.
Today’s could potentially see us stretch our lead on the table after the weekend’s round of games.
Prosper Narteh made four changes to the side that won against Bechem United last Sunday.
Debutant, Maxwell Agyemang replaced Skipper Ismail Ganiyu, who is out on Ghana national team assignment, and there was also a first appearance this season for Andrews Kwadwo Appau, who replaced Mubarik Yussif.
Oppong also earned his first start so also was Richard Boadu, and the new entrants proved their mettle, teaming up effectively with the rest.
We struggled to keep up our passing game due to the poor nature of the pitch, but we, nonetheless, caused the hosts’ some problems.
Samuel Owusu had a goal disallowed for offside in the closing minutes of the first half and there were a couple of controversial offside calls given in the hosts’ favour at some key moments.
Our backline had a comfortable afternoon, Razak Abalora keeping out effort from Prince Owusu in the 20th minute, before excellently palming out a free kick 13 minutes later.
The save of the day came three minutes into injury time when Razak Abalora came off his line to face off with an opponent player before blocking his goal-bound strike with his knee.
