Asante Kotoko beat Aduana Stars in Dormaa Ahenkro for the first time on Saturday to move three points clear of the league table.

George Mfegue put us in the lead inside the 19th-minute with a perfect header to Imoro Ibrahim’s accurate corner kick into the box.

Richmond Lamptey wrapped up the win on the 90th-minute, blasting in a rebound from close-range after Evans Adomako’s shot was spilt by Joseph Addo.

The Porcupines were the dominant side on the afternoon and created all the chances but rued their profligacy upfront, especially in the first half.

Danlad Ibrahim maintained the posts after making his first start this season in Wednesday’s FA Cup loss to city rivals King Faisal. Today’s game was also his first Premier League appearance for the club.

Skipper, Abdul Ganiyu, who was a come-on against Faisal started, having recovered from injury, and Augustine Agyapong completed Prosper Narteh’s three changes from the eleven that started in the King Faisal game with his first start.

It was our 12th visit to the Nana Agyemang Badu Park and with no win but five draws and six defeats, the Porcupines knew that the time was just up to change the scrolls.

And that was exactly what they set out to do from the blast of the referee’s whistle.

George Mfegue shot into the keeper’s palms early in the game, Mudasiru Salifu scratched a long-range shot on the crossbar before Richmond Lamptey failed to score from a begging chance in the 18th minute.

Lamptey’s shot was blocked before it was headed to corner by a defender. The resulting kick from Imoro found Mfegue who outjumped his marker to head it past the helpless goalkeeper.

Spurred on by the goal, the Porcupines pounced on Aduana Stars for more goals but were unlucky as Amankona hit the woodwork from a low shot in the 36th minute.

Prosper Narteh was forced to replace Mfegue with Sarfo Taylor before the start of the second half, following the Cameroonian’s injury at the death of the first half.

Frank Etuoga followed in the 51st minute with a head injury and was replaced with Evans Adomako.

Adomako went close but was prevented from shooting as Abass Mohammed dispossessed him with a clean tackle.

Mubarik Yussif stopped Samuel Bio’s strike with a decent block inside the box in the 68th minute.

Aduana grew in confidence afterwards and multiplied in numbers inside our area but our defenders were resolute and kept them at bay until Lamptey doubled up our lead to seal the victory.

Adomako latched onto a pass inside the Aduana box with a shot that Joseph Addo could not catch. The keeper spilt the ball and the lurking Richmond Lamptey pounced on it with a shot into the net.

The Porcupines after today’s top-table clash now lead the league log with 23 points with an outstanding game ahead of next week’s visit by Ashgold in the Asanteman Derby.
