Our Chief Executive Officer Nana Yaw Amponsah spoke to Kumasi-based media house Oyerepa FM/TV on Monday morning, the lengthy interview which was moderated by Eugene Adu Poku (Stryker) saw our hard-working CEO speak about Kotoko’s direction, what he seek to achieve with the club and other matters

Below is the full transcript:

On getting rid of some players:

“When my management took over, the team had 38 players, and then coach Maxwell Konadu wanted some players to leave which they left eventually,”

The Appointment of Coach Prosper Ogum

“I remember saying in our first season, we wanted to build a CHAN-like team and also build a WAFA-like team in the second year. To have a WAFA-like team means that you would need a WAFA-like coach so we needed to sign Dr, Ogum,”

on the decision to sign second division players

“There is nothing new under the sun, football has always been the job of young but talented players. All that you need is quality regardless of their age. We’re in a country where people don’t respect expertise,”

on the rationale behind the club’s Virtual seat Challenge

“We realized that there were people who weren’t coming to the stadium physically but could contribute some money through the Virtual Seat Challenge to support the club,”

On our target in the first round

“We didn’t meet our target for the first round of the league, our target was to amass 40 points. One of the surprises I have had is that we have lost two matches,”

On key players leaving

“As at this stage, I can say that no player will exit the club till the end of the season. We will decide whether a player would leave the club or not depending on the club’s financial strength,”

On supporters

“The supporters of Asante Kotoko are our collateral and I respect them so much”

On poor attendance at Babayara sports stadium

“I brought investors to the Baba Yara Stadium twice to showcase our huge supporters numbers but frankly they disappointed and didn’t come in their numbers as expected. I was left disappointed and the investors asked me where are the massive supporters who told us about,”

On high ticketing

“There is no guarantee that if we reduce ticking prices the number of attendance will increase,”

He challenged Supporters

“I will build a stadium for Asante Kotoko within 18 months if I should get 100,000 committed supporters to contribute $100 each.”

On his future

“I am currently focused on present mandate and I will continue to do my best so if I am handed additional mandate I will continue to work for Kotoko”
